Basketball is an extremely popular sport and most high schools have basketball teams for both boys and girls. In the US, there is now a professional league for women's basketball teams.

籃球是相當受歡迎的運動，大部分的中學都有成立球隊(包括男子與女子球隊)。現在在美國，也已經有一個職業級的籃球聯盟可供女生比賽了。


Football--Hardest Tackles (美式足球- Hardest Tackles)
In the US, "football" refers to American football rather than soccer. In order to score points, the ball has to be thrown or carried to the end goal and it can't touch the ground. The other team tackles anyone who has the ball to prevent the opposite team from scoring. Football players wear helmets and a lot of padding to protect themselves from injuries like concussions. Most American high schools and colleges have football teams, which can generate a lot of money for the school's athletic program when the teams win.

在美國，足球指的是美式足球(橄欖球)而非足球。要以傳導或是持球並且不能落地的方式，將球送抵終點才能得分。此外，防守球員必須以擒抱的方式才能阻止對方得分。美式足球的球員皆必須穿著護具，避免因比賽過程而造成如腦震盪之類的意外傷害。大部分美國的高中或大學都有美式足球校隊，而在重大比賽脫穎而出的球隊，往往還能替學校爭取體育相關的贊助經費呢。

Baseball is considered an "American pastime." People started playing baseball in America as early as 1838. There are songs about baseball (Take me out to a Ball Game) and slang that came from baseball terminology.

兩千零四年之前的八十六年，波士頓紅襪隊從未能贏得總冠軍，這是美國職棒大聯盟史上最長的紀錄。此外就是「貝比魯茲魔咒」最為人知曉，謠傳曾經締造不少全壘打紀錄的知名球員貝比魯茲在被交易到洋基隊時，發下這樣一個詛咒。也許因為這樣，一直到今天兩支球隊都還是世仇。

The Boston Red Sox, until 2004, hadn't won the World Series for 86 years, which is one of the longest losing streaks in baseball history. The "Curse of the Bambino" happened when they traded Babe Ruth, who set many home run records, to the New York Yankees and he cursed the Red Sox for trading him. The Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees are still rivals.

Hockey
Hockey is very popular in Canada and colder places in the US. It is a very physical sport. Players have to wear protective gear. The two teams try to score the puck into the opposite goal.

冰上曲棍球在加拿大和美國較寒冷的地區是一項很受歡迎的運動。它也是一項很強調身體碰撞的體育運動。基於這樣，比賽的兩隊依規定皆必須穿著護具。透過將曲棍球擊入對方球門來獲得比賽勝利。
